Liquid penetrant testing is a method for detecting surface discontinuities in most nonporous solid materials. The test does not depend on the internal physical properties of the test object material, which may be metallic or nonmetallic, conductive or nonconductive, crystalline or amorphous, solid or hollow, homogenous or composite, fine grain or coarse grain, a pure metal, an alloy, a ceramic, or a glassy material.

The liquid penetrant test is outstanding, among practical nondestructive tests, in its simplicity and remarkable sensitivity in revealing very small surface cracks and surface-connected discontinuities.

Atlantic Precision’s NDT department has Fluorescent Liquid Penetrant Inspection capability utilizing the High and Ultra High sensitivity penetrants. Atlantic Precision is PWA approved in the FPM Code 2 and FPM Code 7 methods and has Nadcap accreditation in the E1417 Type I Method A Level 3 “water washable” and Type I Method D Level 4 “hydrophilic post emulsifying” methods.
